Bursary honours actuarial science alumnus

Employer funds actuarial science bursary in memory of colleague

Pensions and investment specialist Hymans Robertson LLP has launched a bursary worth £5000 a year for one of Bayes Business School’s actuarial science students.

The bursary is in memory of Patrick Amos Bloomfield, who graduated from City, University of London with a first class (hons) BSc in Actuarial Science at City in 1996. After joining Hymans Robertson is 2004, his passion and deep understanding of the pensions industry quickly led to him being made a partner in 2006 and an equity member of the firm in 2010.

Sadly, Patrick died last year.

Colleagues paid tribute to his professional brilliance and flamboyant personality.

The new bursary which bears his name will fund one new student starting a BSc in Actuarial Science, a BSc in Finance with Actuarial Science or a BSc in Data Analytics and Actuarial Science in the 2024/25 academic year. The recipient will receive £5000 for each of the three years needed to complete the course. Similar funding will be available for a student beginning one of those courses in 2025/26 and 2026/27.

The bursary will be awarded to a student with a confirmed place on one of the BSc programmes who can show academic excellence and demonstrate financial need.

Interested students need to write a 750 word essay explaining how they match the criteria and send it, by 6pm on 20 October, to Senior Course Officer, Nick Howes at asug@city.ac.uk
