Iain Allan Bursary to support Indian and South East Asian actuarial students

Four student bursaries to be awarded to postgraduate applicants for the next three years.

A Bayes Business School bursary will fund four students towards studying on a postgraduate actuarial course.

The Iain Allan Bursary will provide £5,000 each for successful applicants who hold an offer to study MSc Actuarial Science or MSc Actuarial Management.

The bursary will be awarded to four prospective students from India or South East Asia for each of the next three years. It is named after its donor, an Honorary Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance at Bayes.

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must:

  • be a permanent resident of India or in eligible countries in South East Asia
  • be able to demonstrate financial need
  • have a confirmed offer to study either Msc Actuarial Science or MSc Actuarial Management

Applications for the September 2025 intake are now open. To apply, eligible prospective students must fill out the Iain Allan Bursary Application Form by Tuesday 13 May 2025.

The Bayes MSc in Actuarial Science is designed for aspiring actuaries who want to take their first steps towards the profession. It provides students with a firm grounding in the fundamentals of actuarial science in insurance, finance and investment, and business analytics methods.

The Bayes MSc in Actuarial Management, meanwhile, is for part-qualified actuaries or graduates from a recognised BSc or MSc Actuarial Science course. The course includes an in-depth, advanced study of actuarial science, insurance, finance and investment, extending knowledge beyond the core principles and gaining exemptions from later professional examinations.

Professor Richard Payne, Deputy Dean for Programmes at Bayes, said:

“At Bayes we strive to make business education accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of financial or socio-economic background.

“Our postgraduate actuarial courses are accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, and recognised as a Centre of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) by the Society of Actuaries. They therefore provide a direct route into a highly rewarding career.

“Thanks to Iain’s generosity, we are thrilled to be able to offer 12 talented prospective students the opportunity to study a world-class and accredited postgraduate degree with us.

“We are grateful for Iain’s support, and look forward to welcoming applications and meeting the successful recipients.”
