“London has a global reputation as a business and tech hub, especially in sectors like energy and fintech, and that was a major draw for me. There are just so many opportunities in London, I knew it would be the ideal place to launch a career in analytics.”

Taking a data-driven approach to business
Dimitris has a background in Economics, having completed his bachelor’s degree with a specialisation in Banking and Finance, at the University of Thessaly. Armed with a solid understanding of quantitative analysis, he was drawn to pursue a more data-driven and strategic path, which led him to Business Analytics.
“Business Analytics stood out to me as a uniquely versatile field. What fascinated me most was its dual nature - it combines technical depth with strategic thinking. You get to dive into coding, data visualisation, and machine learning, while also exploring business strategy, decision-making, and value creation. It’s a field that sharpens both analytical and commercial skills, making it applicable across any sector.”

“The graduate programme spans three years and includes two rotations. My current role is as an Information Management Advisor, which is technical and closely aligned with data analytics.”
“I work on projects that involve large-scale data handling, coding, and digital transformation, skills I developed and refined during my time at Bayes – the MSc prepared me well. Modules like Applied NLP, Machine Learning, and Data Visualisation gave me the technical foundation to work confidently with data.”
“One of the most memorable parts of the master’s was the Strategic Business Analytics module, taught by Visiting Lecturer Dr Hugo de Sousa. It was both intellectually challenging and deeply rewarding. I had the opportunity to conduct a strategy consulting report for Arsenal Holdings Limited, where I identified key challenges in their ticketing and e-commerce operations.”
“I applied strategic frameworks like the Business Model Canvas and used data-driven insights based on research to propose actionable solutions. This project allowed me to combine my analytical skills with my passion for football, and I am very grateful to have had that opportunity.”
“The Applied Research Project I did with the Bank of England was especially valuable - it taught me how to apply analytics to real-world problems, collaborate with stakeholders, and communicate insights to them effectively.”
“I worked with the Bank’s Climate Change Analytics team. We were analysing some climate-related financial disclosures and earnings call transcripts from banks and insurers – we were looking for how often certain key phrases were referred to, translating the transcripts into data. It was a great bridge between academic learning and real-world application, and it gave me the confidence to step into my current role at Shell.”
Alongside gaining academic knowledge and developing technical skills, Bayes places an emphasis on developing leadership and soft skills.
“Some of the most valuable skills I acquired were soft skills. It was my first year studying and working in an English-speaking environment, and that experience significantly improved my communication and presentation abilities.”

“I was very alert to the dynamics of the London job market and wanted to be proactive from day one. The support I received was incredibly valuable. From CV reviews and mock interviews to assessment centre simulations and general career advice.”
“One moment that really stands out was when I received an email from Shell inviting me to speak with HR. I wasn’t sure how to interpret it or how to respond. Making valuable connections
As an international student, building connections and networks in a new city is not always straightforward. Dimitris found Bayes range of events and activities were a great place to start.
“Bayes organises lots of events to meet fellow postgraduate students throughout the year. These events are so multicultural. I love meeting people from other countries, and I made friends with students from Argentina and Peru, for example. Then we’d work together on our coursework, and it was great to be collaborating in English.”
The campuses at Finsbury Square and Bunhill Row regularly host industry events, guest lectures, and networking sessions that bring professionals and students together.
“One event that stood out was organised by the Greek Energy Forum (GEF) - it gave me the chance to connect with fellow Greeks working in the energy sector in London, which was both inspiring and reassuring.”
“I was able to meet alumni, recruiters, and industry experts, and have meaningful conversations that expanded my understanding of the market and opened doors for future opportunities.”

Although Dimitris was already familiar with London, having visited several times, he has found the experience of studying and working went beyond his expectations.
“The city is vibrant, diverse, and full of energy - there’s always something happening. One of the things I have enjoyed most is exploring the city on foot. I love going for long walks and discovering London’s different neighbourhoods. Each area has its own character, from the elegance of Fitzrovia to the creative buzz of Shoreditch. It’s a great way to connect with the city and stumble upon hidden gems you wouldn’t find otherwise. London is really a place to grow, both personally and professionally.”
Advice for future students
“My advice would be to approach the experience with both curiosity and intention. Bayes offers a rich academic environment, but what truly sets it apart is the access to real-world opportunities, industry connections, and personal growth. It can feel overwhelming at times, especially in a fast-paced city like London - but patience and persistence go a long way.”

“Start engaging early – reach out to the Careers Service, attend events, and start building your network and understanding of the job market. Being proactive from the start helped me stay ahead and feel more confident navigating opportunities.”
“Be ready to grow beyond academics – Bayes is not just about learning technical skills. It’s about developing soft skills, adapting to corporate environments, and learning how to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
“My final piece of advice is to be open to change – From the way education works in a business school to meeting people from all over the world, Bayes is a place of transformation. Some of the people you meet may become lifelong friends, and the experiences you have will shape both your career and your character.”
Thriving outside of the comfort zone
“One of the biggest things I learned about myself during my time at Bayes was how adaptable and resilient I can be. Moving to a new country, studying in a new language, and stepping into a fast-paced academic and professional environment was a challenge - but it pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated.”
“I discovered that I thrive when I am outside my comfort zone. Most importantly, I gained confidence - not just in my technical abilities, but in my ability to communicate, connect, and contribute meaningfully in a global professional setting.”
