Student to Student: How to make the most of your master’s at Bayes

Whether you’ve received your offer from Bayes, are already studying here, or are considering joining, this is an exciting step forward! What can you expect during your time here? How do you get settled into student life in London?

Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here’s your ultimate guide to making the most of your time at Bayes.

1. First things first – pack your raincoat & master "sorry" and "thank you"

Before we talk about academics, business clubs and career fairs, here’s a London survival tip: Never trust the weather.

One minute, you’re basking in the sunshine and the next? You’re caught in a downpour with no escape. So, do yourself a favour—pack a good raincoat or umbrella. It’ll be your best friend in this city. And while you're at it, get used to saying “sorry” and “thank you” regularly:

• Someone bumps into you? Say sorry.
• Someone’s walking super slow in a crowded area but lets you through? Thank them.
• You drop your own coffee? Apologise to the coffee, it’s probably upset with you.

Don’t worry if you don’t get it yet—once you are here, you’ll fit right in! It’s all part of the charm of London!

If you’re new to London, Bayes also offers a London Bus Tour! You’ll get to see the biggest landmarks, from Big Ben to Tower Bridge, while meeting fellow students and getting a feel for your new city.

2. Welcome to your second home – Bayes Business School

Bayes Business School isn’t just a school—it’s your home away from home.

Here, you’ll learn, grow, laugh, dance, struggle, celebrate, and yes—probably have those moments where you sit in the library questioning your life choices (we all do it!). But no matter what, you’ll never stop moving forward.

At Bunhill Row, you’ll find the Bayes Library—open until midnight because, let’s be real, sometimes we are so ‘busy’ that we just end up crunching towards the deadlines!

But here’s the coolest part—study spaces aren’t just limited to the library. There are study rooms almost everywhere on campus, so wherever you go, you’ll always find people reading, revising, and grinding through coursework. And trust me, when you see others working hard, you’ll feel inspired to do the same.

Academics at Bayes are also never boring! You’ll find seminars, workshops, and events happening all the time. Check Moodle, register for the ones that interest you, and block your calendar, you never know when a free lunch might be included too!

And if you’re like me and love hoarding books (but never actually reading them on time), don’t worry—you can borrow them with your student ID. Who needs a bedtime story when you’ve got 'Predictive Analytics for Dummies'?

3. Careers at Bayes – your secret to landing that dream job

One of the best resources at Bayes is the Postgraduate Careers Team, they’re here to help you feel confident in your job search.

Here’s what they offer:

4. Bayes Business Clubs – because there’s something for everyone

University life isn’t just about lectures and assignments, it’s also about joining communities, meeting new people, and having fun!

Bayes offers 15+ business clubs, so there’s truly something for everyone, for instance:

I joined the Bayes Business Analytics Business Club (“Best Business Club”), and we now have 300+ members. If you’re passionate about something, why not lead a business club? Apply, interview, and make an impact!

5. How to save more living in London

London is expensive, but Bayes helps students find part-time jobs through Unitemps.

I applied for the International Student Ambassador role, and it’s been one of my best experiences so far. No experience? No problem! Bayes provides full training for roles, so you can gain experience while earning.

Tip: Check Unitemps regularly—there are always new opportunities.

To save more on your day-to-day activities, there are tons of discounts you can explore as a student. For example, all students get 6 months of free Amazon Prime—yes, that means free deliveries and Prime Video for those late-night binge sessions. Plus, apps like Student Beans and UNiDAYS offer massive discounts on clothing, food, tech, and much more. Many entertainment options in London, such as museums, exhibitions, and movie tickets also offer discounts for students. Go ahead and enjoy these discounts while they last!

6. Volunteering – give back & grow

Bayes encourages students to engage with the community through volunteering opportunities.

I joined Indigo Volunteers, an organisation helping refugees worldwide, and also signed up for a gardening project at Northampton Square—a peaceful break from academics.

Volunteering isn’t just about helping others—it’s also a way to build leadership skills, meet inspiring people, and add valuable experience to your CV.

Bayes also loves showcasing its students! I’ve had amazing opportunity to write my first blog and even got featured in a Bayes career video. These experiences helped me build my personal brand and connect with people across the university.
