Education and Programmes

The Centre aims to deliver and grow excellent interdisciplinary and experience-based approaches to education.

Leadership for a complex world: Enabling collective brilliance

Leaders today face environments that are fast-moving, interconnected, and unpredictable, and traditional approaches often fall short. Delivered by Andy Wilkins and Kate Stuart-Cox, this three-day executive programme helps you navigate complexity with confidence, harness diverse perspectives, and create the conditions for others to perform at their best. Through a highly experiential blend of theory, self-reflection, and real-world application, you will explore how inclusive and adaptive leadership enables individuals and teams to thrive even in the most uncertain environments, designing spaces where trust, creativity, and performance can flourish.

Learning with the Centre

Using techniques and support tools drawn from business, design, the arts, technology, law, and the social sciences. We work with the people and tools developed through our education and research to create impact in the organisations we work with and the world at large. Our teaching brings theory to life through a practical, reflective, and values-based approach, giving learners a variety of experiences to strengthen their leadership capabilities.

Creative Thinking and Practice

At the heart of our teaching is the Centre’s research into creative, design, and arts-based thinking and, above all, how these capabilities can be nurtured through education. We actively put this research into practice on the international stage. For example, Dr Sara Jones has contributed to the British Council’s Creative Central Asia 2026 forum, helping to shape the conversation on how creative education should evolve in the age of AI and equip learners with the skills they will need for the future. Insights like these feed directly back into how and what we teach.

Intellectual Property

Our education also draws on the Centre’s research into the management of intellectual property for creative products, from copyright and trademarks to the legal implications of generative AI for the creative sector. Current work includes RELISH, a Horizon Europe project on food culture and culinary heritage in which Professor Enrico Bonadio leads a work package on IP and AI in recipe creation. This research brings live legal and ethical questions directly into our teaching, for example through Bayes’ Executive Master’s in Leadership for the Creative Industries.

Diverse CDT

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Diversity in Data Visualisation (Diverse CDT) offers fully funded, four-year PhD programme jointly delivered by City St George’s, University of London and the University of Warwick. It trains the next generation of researchers to design and evaluate inclusive, impactful, and socially responsible data visualisations, combining expertise in data science, human-computer interaction, visual design, and accessibility with real-world placements and international exchange. As a co-investigator and member of the DIVERSE CDT management team, Dr Sara Jones delivers a module on Creativity in Data Visualisation, while also integrating techniques developed as part of the Boosting Resilience programme and our Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership into induction and residential activities.

MBA Teaching

Members of the Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice also contribute modules to Bayes Business School’s MBA programme, including a module for the online Global MBA, ranked 4th in the world, on Technology and Innovation, and a module for the Executive MBA on Design Thinking: Soft Skills and AI Technologies.

Master’s in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership

The Master’s in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership (MICL) was the Centre’s flagship interdisciplinary master’s degree. It is not currently recruiting, but it remains a clear illustration of how we teach creative leadership and of the kind of transformative learning experience the Centre is known for. You can read more about our MICL Master’s in this book chapter, The Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership: Preparing Graduates for a Turbulent World.

“You can’t see it, smell it, or hear it. People disagree on how to define it, or where it comes from. It isn’t a school subject or an academic discipline, but it can be learned … it flourishes most fully when people are playful and childlike. At the same time, it works best in tandem with deep knowledge and expertise.”

In an increasingly complex world, where organisations face problems that demand inputs from creative leaders and individuals, the MICL was designed to help people learn how to adapt to and shape a changing world. Students learned from a multidisciplinary team of academics and practitioners, developing knowledge and skills in leadership, creativity, and innovation that can instigate valuable change across a wide range of situations. The programme explored creativity through the lenses of:

  • Business
  • The arts
  • Psychology
  • Law
  • Design
  • Digital technologies

Participants also learned how to unleash creativity themselves and in others, including team members, colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

What our MICL alumni say

“The multidisciplinary nature of the MICL helped me grow personally and professionally. It broadened my knowledge, stretched my thinking, and challenged me to work in new areas. It enabled me to take my career in a fresh direction.”

— Stephen Clulow, Nine Sigma

“I have learned things that I would never have anticipated and challenged myself in completely unexpected ways.”

— Carrie Deacon

“I’ve done tons of training in the past — some good, some bad — but the MICL isn’t about being trained, it’s about starting an adventure!”

— Vanessa Longley
