Dr. Georgios I. Garas is a Consultant ENT - Head & Neck Surgeon specialising in Surgical Oncology and Thyroid Surgery. He has recently returned home to Athens, Greece after over 20 years in the UK. He obtained his medical degree with Distinction from the University of London (2007) and his PhD from Imperial College London (2020).
For his work on Surgical Technology & Innovation, he has received numerous national and international prizes plus grants including from The Royal College of Surgeons of England, of which he is a Fellow (FRCS) since 2020.
Dr Garas has published over 70 scientific papers on MEDLINE/PUBMED (National Library of Medicine, USA) with several featuring in some of the world's most prestigious medical journals including The Lancet, Annals of Surgery, PLoS One, and BMJ Open. His academic work has received over 2,500 citations. In 2019 he was awarded the Gold Medal by the European Board in Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery for scoring highest (first at European level) in both the written and oral parts of the Board Examinations.
In 2021, he was appointed Consultant Surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham and in 2022 Hon. Clinical Senior Lecturer (Surgery & Cancer) at Imperial College London.
