N. HansteenN. HansteenNicolai Hansteen is Director of Shipping Markets, Business Development Maritime at DNV, the world’s leading and largest classification society. Assisting the Segment Directors for bulk carriers and tankers, his responsibility is to develop business relations globally as it pertains to new and existing clients. Nicolai started with DNV in mid-August 2023 from a commercial background. He came to the position having been Chief Shipping Analyst with the international shipbroking and consultancy company Lorentzen & Co working out of the Oslo headquarters. Nicolai is bringing 30 years of experience in oil & gas and shipping, servicing a unique network of industry leaders across the world, providing in-depth and fundamental analysis of markets and companies pursued with vigor, dedication and attention to detail.

He is ranked as one of the top shipping analysts, utilizing research as a mechanism to build client trust and understanding, introducing and proposing deals that are value-added and with a high degree of successful completion. He has also been Department Manager S&P Oslo, working actively on second-hand and newbuilding transactions, increasing the credibility of the transactions proposed, drawing on both a commercial and analytical savvy. Previously he has worked at both Pareto Securities and Pareto Shipping in the international capital and shipping markets, and before that at Nordea Securities as a financial analyst covering the shipping and offshore sectors. Nicolai Hansteen has a B.A. from Middlebury College, Vermont in 1992 and a MSc from City University Business School, London in 1996, specializing in Shipping, Trade & Finance. Mr. Hansteen has been a member of several boards and committees in the shipping and offshore industry and has been delighted to participate as a speaker at many prestigious conferences around the world.
