Professor Adonis Velegrakis
Professor Adonis Velegrakis, Professor in Marine Geology, University of the Aegean
Adonis F. Velegrakis is a Professor at the Department of Marine Sciences (DMS) at the University of the Aegean (Greece). His professional experience spans over 30 years of research and teaching in oceanography, coastal erosion and flooding, climate change impacts on the natural and human coastal environment, and marine environmental law.
Before joining the DMS-UAEGEAN in 2002 he was a senior researcher and lecturer at the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences of the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS), UK. He has participated in and/or coordinated many international, European and national research projects, (co-)authored more than 150 publications in international journals, books and Conference proceedings; and has been a contributing author to the IPCC SREX, 2012.
He has extensive experience as scientific consultant/advisor to international Organizations including UNEP, UNECE and UNFCCC, as well as the UK and Greek Governments and the private sector. Adonis holds a BSc in Geology (University of Thessaloniki, Greece), an MSc in Oceanography (University of Athens, Greece), a PhD in Oceanography (University of Southampton, UK) and an LLM in Marine Environmental Law (University of Southampton, UK).
