About
Overview
Alex is an Associate Professor and Director of the Real Estate Centre at Bayes Business School. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (now Advance HE), and Course Director for the MSc Real Estate programme, having previously been the Course Director for the MSc Global Finance online course. He has been involved in research and transactions in the global real estate sector at a senior level for over 35 years.
His career has encompassed award-winning sell-side research (BZW), investment banking (CSFB), private equity (Apax Partners Capital), and fund management (M&G and Investec). He formed AME Capital in 2002, which developed a proprietary database and analytical tool for all listed real estate companies and real estate securities funds globally. He sold this business to Macquarie Securities in 2008, where he stayed for over three years as Head of Global Property Securities Analytics. In 2012 he formed Consilia Capital, a real estate investment advisory firm, and developed an international institutional client base,as well as publishing regularly in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Portfolio Management.
He is an acknowledged international expert in REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts ) and is asked to speak on the topic around the world. His work in this field has had a significant impact at both national and international levels, and he is on the Advisory Board and chairs the Research Committee for EPRA, whose members own more than €840 bn of real estate assets globally. His paper on blending direct and listed real estate was voted best paper in real estate finance at the 2014 ERES conference , and he is a guest lecturer on REITs for postgraduate courses at Cambridge University and University College London.
He has held roles as Visiting Professor at Henley Business School and City University, and been responsible for transformational change through educational leadership with his work on the online Global Finance and online Global MBA courses, as well as his innovative 6-week online "Understanding the REIT Price" course.
His textbook, "Global Real Estate Capital Markets: Theory and Practice" published in 2024 is now on the required reading list for real estate courses at Universities around the world.
Alex received the Freedom of the City of London.in April 2026.
