About
Overview
Professor Feng Li, PhD, is Associate Dean for Research & Innovation and Chair of Information Management at Bayes Business School. His research investigates how digital technologies can be used to facilitate strategic innovation and organisational transformation across different sectors and domains. He advises senior business leaders and policy makers on how to manage the transition to new technologies, new business models, and new organisational designs in the digital economy. In addition to delivering strong business outcomes, he also studies how digital innovations can be used to alleviate significant societal challenges using financially sustainable and operationally scalable approaches. He is currently investigating how AI, esp Generative AI, are being used to transform organisations, institutions and work in both developed and emerging economies.
Feng's research has attracted substantial external funding from UK Research Councils (EPSRC/ESRC/InnovateUK), foundations (e.g. Wellcome Trust), and leading global businesses (e.g. Slack, VMWare), totalling over £40 million (cica. $60million) in his capacity as PI or Co-I. Most projects are in collaboration with leading scholars from other disciplines (mainly Computing, Engineering and Medicine) and with business partners from the private, public, and voluntary sectors. His research has been published in leading peer reviewed journals and reported extensively by the international media. His independent thought-leadership research has been sponsored by Slack, VMWare, AWS and Imagen.
Previously, Feng served as Head of Technology & Innovation Group and Associate Dean for Research & Enterprise at Bayes Business School. Before joining Bayes, he was Chair of e-Business Development at Newcastle University Business School for 10 years (2002-2011), where he held various leadership responsibilities including Associate Dean (Director) for Business Engagement, Associate Dean (Director) for Teaching & Learning and Head of Management. Before that he was Lecturer/Senior Lecturer and Director of Postgraduate Research at Management Science in Strathclyde University Business School in Scotland. He has mentored over 30 Post-Doctoral Researchers via his externally funded research projects. He has supervised 15 PhDs to successful completion.
Externally, Feng has served on the Prioritisation Panels, Sift Panels and Reviewer Colleges at EPSRC, ESRC and InnovateUK. He is currently a member of the Bank of England (BOE) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)'s AI Consortium. He was a Council Member of British Academy of Management (BAM) and the Founding Chair for the e-Business & e-Government Special Interest Group (SIG). He has been conferred Fellow at both the British Academy of Management (FBAM) and the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS) in recognition of his contributions to theory, practice and policy.
