About
Overview
Florian Lücker is a Reader in Supply Chain Management at Bayes Business School, City St George’s, University of London, and Academic Director of the MSc in International Business. His research examines how firms can enhance the resilience of their supply chains in the presence of disruption risk or geopolitical uncertainty. He is also interested in better understanding how financial instruments—such as reverse factoring, inventory financing, and deep-tier financing—can be leveraged to strengthen supply chain resilience. His work has been published in leading journals including Production & Operations Management, Decision Sciences, the European Journal of Operational Research, and the International Journal of Operations & Production Management.
Florian engages widely with industry and the public sector on issues relating to supply chain resilience and supply chain finance. Through consulting projects and invited talks, he has collaborated with organisations such as Jefferies Investment Bank (USA), the Asian Development Bank (Japan), Migros-Genossenschaft (Switzerland), Hoffmann–La Roche (Switzerland), the European Air Traffic Management Association (Bulgaria), and Ti Insight (UK). His insights have further reached practitioner communities through media engagement, with his work cited by The Banker (The Financial Times), The Independent, The Evening Standard, Der Stern, Vox, and LBC News, among others, helping shape discussions on disruption risk, resilience, and emerging supply chain financing models.
His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (UK), the Swiss National Science Foundation (CH), and the private sector. Florian regularly presents his work at research conferences and in research seminars at business schools.
He serves on the Editorial Review Boards of Decision Sciences Journal and the International Journal of Operations & Production Management, acts as a referee for supply chain journals.
He is also the UK Academic Director of the Industrial Excellence Award, a Europe-wide competition that benchmarks European competitiveness in the industrial and service sectors.
At Bayes, Florian teaches across Executive MBA, MBA, MSc, and undergraduate programmes. As Course Director of the MSc International Business, he leads curriculum development and programme innovation, including major redesign initiatives to enhance academic quality, coherence, and student experience. Florian has been invited to teach supply chain management at the Frankfurt School of Finance, EPFL and the University of Zurich.
Before joining Bayes, Florian was a Visiting Scholar at the Kellogg School of Management and a research assistant at EPFL, where he completed his PhD in Operations Management. He originally trained in physics at ETH Zurich (MSc) and the University of Bonn (BSc). He worked for consultancy Roland Berger and UBS Investment Bank.
