Overview

Jörg M. Ries is a Reader in Operations Management at Bayes Business School. He is also a member of the Bayes Digital Leadership Research Centre (DLRC) the City Data Science Institute (CityDSI). Prior to joining Bayes, Jörg was a visiting research fellow at the Cranfield School of Management and a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he completed his PhD. In addition to his academic roles, Jörg has also experience in working as a supply chain consultant in the automotive, chemical and industrial construction industries.

Underpinned by empirical and modelling research, Jörg's research explores the impact of structural supply chain characteristics and digital technologies on operations performance, risk and innovation. This includes i) the structural and organisational conditions for inter-organisational innovation, ii) the effect of advanced digital technologies in smart and sustainable supply chains, and iii) the optimisation of processes through supply chain financing and inventory management. He has published on these topics in leading international journals such as Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Omega and others.

Jörg has led several research and industry projects, collaborated with industry partners in the development of business analytics applications, and advised a range of companies in the process, manufacturing and transport industries.
