Quality of Bayes’ actuarial science programmes confirmed by external assessors

The professional body for actuaries, the IFoA, has revalidated Bayes' actuarial science programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Τhe groundbreaking Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance at Bayes Business School has secured reaccreditation of three core programmes with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

In a happy climax to the Faculty’s 50th anniversary year, the IFoA confirmed five-year accreditation for our BSc in Actuarial Science, MSc in Actuarial Science, and MSc in Actuarial Management.

Executive Dean Professor Andre Spicer welcomed the news and thanked academic who worked on the reaccreditation process – including  Dr Russell Gerrard, Professor Ioannis Kyriakou, Professor Ben Rickayzen, Dr David Smith, Dr Jaap Spreeuw and Dr Douglas Wright. He also thanked professional services staff who supported them with data and information.

Professor Kyriakou, Director of the actuarial MSc programme cluster, said: “This reaccreditation reaffirms our faculty’s commitment to excellence, celebrating the dedication of our colleagues and the achievements of our students as we continue to educate future actuaries to succeed in a changing professional landscape.”

The reaccreditation process involves updating subject mapping to demonstrate syllabus alignment and compliance with IFoA academic and assessment standards. Overall, it assures that teaching, assessment and quality assurance remain robust.

Amongst the evidence the IFoA considered were cohort statistics, entry requirements and graduate outcome data, alongside details of academic staff. Assessors also look at our industry links, DEI initiatives and results of internal and external quality reviews.
