From Haryana to London: My journey at Bayes Business School
From a small town in Haryana to the vibrant streets of London, my journey to Bayes Business School has been one of growth, discovery and transformation. In this blog, I share my experiences of studying MSc Business Analytics, exploring London, and embracing opportunities that have shaped both my personal and professional life.
If someone had told me a few years ago that I’d be living in London, juggling data models, hosting events, and writing blogs, I would have laughed. Yet here I am, pursuing an MSc in Business Analytics at Bayes Business School and living what feels like a dream. This blog is my attempt to share that journey—one filled with challenges, discoveries, and, above all, growth.
From Mahendergarh to Finsbury Square
Coming from Mahendergarh, a small town in Haryana, India, the leap to London wasn’t just geographical—it was cultural, emotional, and professional. My academic journey began at Yaduvanshi Shiksha Niketan School, where I laid the foundation in commerce. After completing my BBA and MBA in HR at Kurukshetra University, I worked in talent acquisition for a few years. It was a fulfilling chapter, but something was missing.
Technology was advancing at breakneck speed, and businesses were increasingly relying on data for decision-making. I realised that if I didn’t act, I’d regret it later. This realisation led me to Bayes Business School and London—a city that offers endless opportunities, diversity, and excitement.
When researching universities, Bayes stood out as more than just a top-tier business school—it felt like a gateway to endless possibilities. Renowned for its exceptional programmes, ranging from Actuarial Science to Shipping and International Management, Bayes offers a melting pot of expertise under one roof. For me, studying Business Analytics wasn’t just about mastering my chosen field—it was about immersing myself in a community of diverse minds, exchanging ideas with peers from various disciplines, and broadening my understanding of the interconnected business world. Add to that its location in the heart of London—a global hub of innovation and opportunity—and the decision became clear. Bayes wasn’t just a school; it was the foundation for a journey of growth, collaboration, and discovery.
Growing through Bayes
Coming from a non-technical background, choosing to study Business Analytics felt like stepping into uncharted waters. However, Bayes made the transition seamless. The MSc programme combines theory with practical tools like Python, R, and Power BI, making it ideal for professionals like me.
Some of my favourite projects so far include:
- Developing a predictive model for customer churn using Python.
- Creating interactive dashboards for a non-profit organisation using Power BI.
- Collaborating on a machine learning project to optimise supply chain logistics.
What sets Bayes apart is the supportive faculty. They don’t just teach—they guide, mentor, and ensure you’re ready for the industry.
One of the highlights of my time here has been leading the Bayes Business Analytics Society as co-president. Through this role, I’ve organised workshops on topics such as AI ethics, hackathons with industry experts, and networking sessions for students and alumni.
Recently, I also took on the role of Online Student Ambassador, where I connect with prospective students and share my experiences. These roles have pushed me to grow both personally and professionally, proving that leadership isn’t about knowing everything—it’s about learning, adapting, and collaborating.
Each project has been more than just an academic exercise—it’s been a stepping stone towards building my career in business analytics. Developing predictive models has honed my data-driven decision-making skills, while creating dashboards has given me hands-on experience with tools widely used in the industry. Leading the Bayes Business Analytics Society has not only expanded my professional network but also equipped me with leadership qualities that employers highly value. These experiences collectively prepare me to tackle complex challenges in the real-world business landscape.
The fun of London life
Living in London feels like stepping into a film. Whether it’s standing at The Shard and seeing the city stretch endlessly, visiting the Natural History Museum to marvel at dinosaurs, or experiencing the magical extra hour during daylight saving time for the first time, every day here feels new.
London’s diversity is its charm. You can enjoy biryani one day, sushi the next, and finish the week with tacos. The city has everything: historic pubs, vibrant street markets like Camden, and live entertainment ranging from concerts by global stars to West End theatre shows. Fun fact—I even got to meet Priyanka Chopra at an event!
When I’m not buried in coursework or hosting society events, I dedicate my weekends to exploring London:
- Bowling nights: The perfect stress-buster with friends.
- Market hopping: From Borough Market to Whitecross Street Market, there’s always something delicious to try.
- Long walks: Whether it’s Greenwich’s historic charm or Hampstead Heath’s greenery, London’s open spaces are a delight.
- Live events: From concerts by global icons to the city’s many cultural festivals, there’s never a dull moment.
London has also been a crash course in life skills. Before coming here, I couldn’t cook or organise my day properly. Now, I can whip up meals, manage my schedule, and even navigate the Tube like a pro. Living here isn’t just about academics—it’s about personal growth and embracing every opportunity this incredible city has to offer.
The journey continues
London’s diversity makes it feel like home, even when you’re miles away. From celebrating Diwali with friends to bumping into someone who knows your hometown, you’re constantly reminded that no matter where you go, you’ll find a little bit of home.
The city’s multicultural environment has taught me to appreciate different perspectives, and I’ve made friends from all over the world. The beauty of studying in London is that you’re not just learning from books—you’re learning from people.
This journey is far from over. Every day brings new lessons, challenges, and reasons to smile. Whether it’s mastering a new analytics tool, organising a successful event, or simply enjoying a quiet evening by the Thames, London keeps me on my toes.
If you’re reading this and considering Bayes, my advice is simple: take the leap. The journey might be unpredictable, but it will be worth it. Pack your bags, join us here, and let’s make this world a better place—one data-driven decision at a time.
Who knows? Your own rollercoaster ride might just begin here.
