Specialist banking research, teaching and consultancy

The Centre for Banking Research promotes topical and high calibre academic research in banking. We host conferences and organise workshops and events to disseminate our research findings. We also foster the teaching of banking subjects to a high standard through MSc and PhD level programmes at Bayes Business School.

Drawing on the wide experience of our core and associate members, the Centre offers expert analysis of economic and business problems that affect the banking and financial sectors. We provide specialist consultancy to the banking and financial services industry, public sector organisations, regulatory authorities and governments. Our core and associate members maintain extensive links to industry and regulatory bodies, such as the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, the Financial Conduct Authority, HMT, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Our team of international banking experts are regular commentators in the international and national media.

Message from the Director

"The Centre for Banking Research was founded in 2008, building upon a long history of banking research at Bayes Business School. Our mission is inspired by the vision of the founder, the late Professor Shelagh Heffernan, who believed in the importance of connecting academic researchers with practitioners and policymakers. The need for an on-going dialogue and for evidence-based policy decisions is of the utmost importance, in the context of fast changing technology and innovation impacting the banking industry. Our mission is to disseminate cutting-edge research and engage with a wide array of stakeholders, leveraging our network of excellence in banking research through publications, workshops and events."

Over the past quarter of a century the focus for this lecture has been monetary theory and monetary policy, whereas in 2006 there was a departure into the finance arena.
