Driving the future of MBA education

By Professor Costas Andriopoulos, Associate Dean of MBA Programmes at Bayes Business School.

In an age of social media and influencers, fashions and trends come and go in the blink of an eye.

We go to bed one night satisfied by our latest online purchase of the latest ‘must-have’ accessory, only to wake up and find it superseded by a newer, trendier product on the market.

With recent noise around the appeal of an MBA, the same is commonly said for postgraduate education.

The term ‘MBA’ is often preceded by ‘traditional’. This would imply that business schools and other providers simply teach out of a textbook year after year. In fact, MBA programmes respond to the changing world and contexts around them. They address global challenges and leadership requirements, as well as hopes and ambitions of students.

Innovating ahead of the curve

The world is evolving rapidly, and MBA education must keep pace — not just react. At Bayes Business School, we don’t just follow trends; we help shape them. Unlike traditional MBA programmes still rooted in static classrooms, our approach reflects how business is done today: across borders, networks, and professional environments. Through our dynamic, globally connected learning model, students engage with ideas where they matter most: in the real world.

Bayes has recently refreshed its assessment approach to prioritise real-world application of knowledge. Written examinations still have their place in professional practice, but evaluation should reflect real-life situations in the business world – including reports, presentations, new business pitches and international consultancy. Such an approach is required to prepare students for leadership in a dynamic global environment.

The recent rise in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues as key contributors to business performance must also be factored in. Each Full-time MBA module offered at Bayes includes elements of ESG learning. We have London electives on climate change for business, and ESG innovation and strategy, as well as international sustainability electives in Kenya and The Netherlands.

Similarly, it is impossible to ignore the growing significance of AI and machine learning, and their undoubted impact on the business world. Equipping students with the skills to thrive in a world increasingly driven by AI is fundamental for fuelling future leadership success.

While academics at Bayes Business School provide world-class theoretical grounding, many also bring significant real-world experience into the classroom. This blend of rigorous scholarship and practical insight is further enriched by an extensive network of visiting lecturers — ensuring that the Bayes MBA is not only rooted in academic excellence but deeply connected to the realities of modern business.

Education in a global financial capital

What sets the Bayes MBA apart is its deep alignment with the realities of global business. Our programme immerses students in a wide range of perspectives, environments, and challenges—mirroring the diversity of today’s marketplace. With a truly multicultural cohort at its core, the Bayes MBA fosters peer-to-peer learning that broadens world views and sharpens understanding of international business practices in a way few programmes can match.

Home to more than nine million people, London is one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world, and a global capital where finance, culture, and innovation collide. Positioned between the City of London and Shoreditch, Bayes Business School is uniquely placed at the intersection of global capital and cutting-edge start-up and tech scenes, including AI. As a Bayes MBA student, you’re not only learning in a world capital, you’re immersed in it.

With London as your launchpad and opportunities to travel abroad, you’ll gain a global outlook grounded in real-world business practice.

A career springboard

Pursuing an MBA continues to be a transformative career choice, whether you are advancing in your current industry or company, changing careers, launching a venture, growing a family business, or working independently as a consultant or fractional executive. At Bayes, we recognise the varied paths our students take, which is why we pair exposure to real-world leadership challenges with behind-the-scenes access to career opportunities.

Bayes is set to become the first business school to embed career management skills into the core of its MBA. We will offer credit bearing modules focused on strategic career management, leadership development and advanced communication skills to enhance long-term professional growth.

Bayes MBA students gain unfettered access to a dedicated careers contact for award-winning coaching and advice, throughout their programme and three years after completion. The team is comprised of highly experienced talent management professionals with backgrounds in recruitment, assessment and selection, occupational psychology and leadership development.

An impressive 91 per cent of the Bayes MBA class of 2023 received job offers within six months of graduation.

A flexible approach

Today’s MBA students demand flexibility and the convenience to study at their own pace alongside professional commitments – wherever they are in the world.

This means designing programmes that allow executives to deliver immediate value to organisations, including options of in-person and online teaching to suit international study. To take this further, all Bayes MBA programmes are compatible with one another, meaning students can transfer study routes during their programme. For instance, a student studying on an Executive MBA (EMBA) can transfer to a Modular Executive MBA (MEMBA), or from a MEMBA to an online MBA as circumstances change.

More than half (57 per cent) of Bayes MBA alumni from 2023 changed job function, with the same percentage changing industries and nearly half changing location. In fact, one fifth of the Class of 2023 changed all three.

What makes the Bayes MBA truly life-changing is its holistic approach—world-class teaching combined with an immersive, all-round experience. The MBA continues to deliver lasting value—equipping students with the mindset, skills, and networks to lead with confidence in an ever-changing world.
