Empowering nonprofit leaders through professional development at Centre for Charity Effectiveness (CCE)

Nonprofit leadership has never been simple, but today it feels like the challenges feel more complex

From navigating funding uncertainty and staff burnout to the ongoing delicate balancing act between mission and operations, the role demands constant agility. It’s a position that calls for both heart and strategy, yet leaders are often expected to steer their organisation through it all without guidance, information or a support network.

From newly appointed managers to senior leaders of the nonprofit sector looking to sharpen their skills, the Centre for Charity Effectiveness (CCE) at Bayes Business School offers an extensive range of professional development programmes to support your leadership journey. As expectations of nonprofit leaders continue to grow, these programmes are designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to navigate these challenges with confidence.

The main focus of each programme is to empower charity professionals to lead with confidence, clarity, and purpose. Whether you're dealing with financial pressures, organisational changes or want to find your own leadership style, there’s a programme for you.

The most valuable aspect of the course is the network of other aspiring CEOs, whom I’ll be able to contact for support along my journey. The programme helped me to see an alternative career path and instilled confidence in me—something that had felt miles away before completing it

My confidence has grown, and this is making me a better leader overall. I feel I can be more assertive without being aggressive or acting in a way I wouldn't want, but that I am able to make decisions with clarity and confidence to move the organisation forwards.

What’s the benefit of a professional development programme?

Joining a CCE professional development programme allows you to grow both professionally and personally. You will have an opportunity to reflect and learn more about yourself as both an individual and as a leader.

Our programmes are uniquely designed with the nonprofit sector in mind. We know that times are uncertain and can be challenging. You will explore leadership in this context and develop your problem-solving, decision making and team management skills in order to effectively lead a team through times of change.

You walk away with skills and knowledge you can apply straight away, plus new perspectives and a strong peer network that open doors for your career long after the course finishes.

Funding opportunities

We know that within the sector, finances can be stretched, and we want to ensure our programmes are accessible for as many charity leaders as possible. Therefore, we offer multiple opportunities for bursaries and scholarships for some of our programmes.

Small charities bursary scheme

We offer bursary places for applicants working at small nonprofit organisations who have an annual turnover of less than £500,000.

These bursary places are available for the following programmes:

Tall Roots Bursary

Tall Roots offer two bursary spaces for the Aspiring Chief Executives programme. This sponsorship is offered with the aim to help those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, supporting them to reach senior leadership positions within the charity sector.
